They are making slow progress against the tide. The boat team have yet to make visual contact. Trail Book
Northwest Highlands Sea Kayaking —
Scottish Sea Kayak Trail Simon ’s new guidebook detailing the Scottish Sea Kayak Trail is expected to be released this coming Monday. Time will tell if the route become’s a ‘classic’ sea kayak trail like the ‘Inside Passage’ along British Columbia’s and Alaska’s Western seaboard. However I would be suprised if it didn’t.

Peninsula not Peninsular - Whoops!
Paddling Planet —
[image] I received a very nice e-mail today, politely pointing out that my spelling of this word was wrong. Wrong on ScottishSeaKayakTrail.com . Wrong on the Pesda Press website . And quite possibly wrong in my book, which is close to being at final proof stage. Or rather, was close. I'd used 'peninsular', which is the form of the adjective, when I should have used 'peninsula' which is the noun. Pesda Press are on the case. " Sorry to be a bit pedantic, but I hate to see good quality, interesting websites and books 'spoiled' by spelling mistakes" , wrote my correspondent. I'm delighted she did.
A Leap Once Leapt

waterswirl-uk-07 I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment’s gone All my dreams, pass before my eyes, a curiosity– kansas It’s that time again. The time where I can’t let another day go by without making one decision or another about my upcoming paddling adventure. This time of course, it’s Scotland . Some of it is easy enough. Buy this, buy that, read this, read that.. take notes! What is different is that with a little experience I’m trying to travel as lightly as I possibly can. Traveling light is harder than you may think given my past BCU training. You come to believe that anything less than everything is irresponsible. I still remember the ...

Lochaline - New Kayaker Resource
SimonWillis.net —
[image] In this context, for 'resource' read 'cafe'. The O2 Cafe has recently opened in Lochaline Dive Centre , sadly too late to make it into my book . But that's the point of having an updates section on the website ScottishSeaKayakTrail.com But it's much more than a snack-bar. There are excellent rooms, with ensuite facilities, clearly geared to outdoors folk. Excellent evening meals, cooked breakfasts and free wifi. Prices seem reasonable too. If you're kayaking in the Sound of Mull, this would be a good place to hang out.
Kayak to University
SimonWillis.net —
... Kayaking doesn't often make the pages of Scotland's own red-top tabloid newspaper, The Daily Record . James Killingbeck has. He kayaked 1500 miles from home in Devon to St Andrews University, ticking off Snowdon and Scafell Pike along the way. Published - Scottish Sea Kayak Trail
SimonWillis.net —
[image] I've just collected my first book from the post-box and I feel rather excited. There were times I thought it would never happen. Originally intended for publication in May, there have been a series of delays, none of which I've fully investigated. I've yet to go through the book in detail but there's noting I can do now. However, if people spot mistakes or out of date information, there is a forum at www.ScottishSeaKayakTrail.com where they can contribute their wisdom. So if you spot anything, please share your knowledge. Oh, and you can buy the book here .
Premier - Sea Kayak with Gordon Brown
SimonWillis.net —
[image] The Scottish Premier of our DVD Sea Kayak with Gordon Brown will be the opening event of Paddle '09 . It will kick off at 11am on Saturday 24th October at the Bell's Sports Centre in Perth. We'll show a 35 minute long 'highlights' version which I'm still editing. After that, I'm hoping I can persuade Gordon to take some questions. We'll also sell the £19.95 DVD at a special introductory price. I'm also down to take a workshop on my book, The Scottish Sea Kayak Trail . That's on the following day, Sunday 25th October at 14.00. Hope to see you there.

SimonWillis.net —
[image] That's the question we're being asked in e-mails from Canada, the USA, Sweden, Norway and around the UK. The short answer is 1st November 2009 for the PAL version and early 2010 for the NTSC version. Our excellent web team at WideBlueYonder ...
3,300km Kayak Traverse of The Philippines
SimonWillis.net —
[image] This is a great story and possible a great kayaking destination. Full story here . After ticking off the 'Seven Summits', that is climbing the highest peak on each continent, a chap from Singapore wants to be the first person to kayak the length of the Philippines, all 3,300km. They started 29 August and hope to finish by November. The Philippines has set itself the target of becoming the 'Kayaking Capital of Southeast Asia', and is considering turning this long route into a kayaking trail. A kayak trail? That's a good idea.

Scottish Sea Kayak Trail
Paddling Planet —
... boring ‘paddler, sea and coastline’ photo is correct with no boring, bland photos to be found.
In summary this book is a showcase for the World class sea kayaking destination that is the West coast of Scotland. The writing style is engaging and informative yet not prescribtive. I think this trail guidebook might inspire more sea kayak trails around the British Isles and the World and this guidebook has set the benchmark standard at a high bar.
